City of Kokomo Announces Two Nights of Trick-or-Treating

The City of Kokomo announced Thursday that the city will see two nights of trick-or-treating in 2024, in hopes of offering additional flexibility for families.

Trick-or-treating within the city limits will be:

5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 30

5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday Oct. 31

“Looking at how adverse the weather was on Halloweens past, we felt this would give us assurance that we would at least have one good night of treating,” said Kokomo Mayor Tyler Moore. “Nearby communities like Tipton have offered this for years, so folks in our area might already be used to multiple nights.”

Moore said the decision takes into account family work schedules, youth sporting games and practices as well as other scheduling that might have made trick-or-treating difficult. The last time the city offered multiple trick-or-treating options was in the 2010s, Moore said.

“Enjoying the holiday like I do, I always wanted to walk the neighborhoods with my kids and also hand out candy to other children, therefore this gives folks with the same desire the opportunity to do just that,” said Moore.

And like always, he said, candy distributors can participate in one, both or neither evening of treating by simply turning switching their porch light off to signal that whether they are welcoming trick-or-treaters.

The City encourages families to take advantage of the dual trick-or-treating schedule and reminds participants to practice common safety measures such as carrying flashlights, wearing reflective clothing, and checking treats before consumption.

“Just thinking through the holiday and then mentioning it to other Halloween enthusiasts, like Bree Bragg, helped the decision to go to two nights a no brainer,” said Moore. “You know, to keep the zombies away.”

These times apply to the City of Kokomo only. Greentown and Russiaville will both observe trick-or-treating from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 only.
