Bona Vista Named Newest CommuniTees Nonprofit

Local nonprofit Bona Vista Programs is ready to make positivity louder with The Kokomo Post as the next nonprofit organization featured in the 2021 CommuniTees Giveback Program.

The program creates a new piece of original apparel each month, and 100% of the profits from the sale of the merchandise benefit the nonprofit of the month.

Drew Larison, founder of The Kokomo Post, said the timing of the partnership couldn’t be better. March is National Disability Awareness Month, March Madness and Bona Vista’s highly anticipated Disability Awareness Basketball Game.

“Basketball is serious business in Indiana and around Bona Vista,” said Larison. “We love being able to support this incredible organization in such a cool way this year.”

The design for this month’s merchandise is a nod to the rich history and legacy of Bona Vista in our community -- in perfect timing the upcoming game, set for March 24. The eye-catching blue shirts are marked with the Bona Vista logo and a perfectly distressed picture of a basketball, as well as Bona Vista’s driving forces: encouragement, independence and inclusion. Each piece is available at www.thekokomopost.com/shop.

Teams will be wearing the shirt at the event, adding to the excitement of the event. And since this year’s event will not have spectators, supporters can buy the shirts, watch from home and make it feel like you're there, he said.

“The work being done by Bona Vista is truly staggering, and it is such a gift to Kokomo,” said Larison. “We are thrilled to be able to give our community a new way to support an organization that has supported our community for more than 60 years.”

Bona Vista Programs provides services to more than 2,000 children and adults with disabilities each day in North Central Indiana. Bona Vista’s programming is comprehensive, starting with the services provided in early childhood and pediatric therapies departments to adult day services, residential homes, supported living and employment assistance programs.

Drew Larison, founder of The Kokomo Post, said the local infotainment platform has been quietly dreaming of a way to support the nonprofit community, especially in the wake of 2020.

“We exist to make positivity louder in Kokomo,” said Larison. “We can’t think of a better way to do that than to give back to a group of organizations that have supported our community in huge ways for years. It’s our small way of saying thank you to great organizations that are making Howard County better, just like Bona Vista.”

In partnership with the CommuniTees program, Community First Bank of Indiana has come alongside these nonprofits with a matching fund that will match the money raised through apparel sales and additional donations, up to $500.

Each month, the featured nonprofit will be announced on the first business day of the month. To order, visit www.thekokomopost.com/shop.
