Black History Month Coloring Contest Voting

This month, The Kokomo Post had the pleasure of collaborating with local influential leaders and advocates in our community to celebrate Black History Month in a meaningful and engaging way. At the beginning of February, we launched a new coloring contest, designed to honor the legacy of African American hero Frederick Douglass.

In the illustration, local artist JC Barnett paid tribute to the life and achievements of Frederick Douglass. As an abolitionist, orator, writer, publisher, civil rights leader and government official, Douglass dedicated his life to the tireless pursuit of freedom and equality for all.

The illustration pays homage to the Douglass School in Kokomo, a beacon of education and empowerment for generations. You can learn more about Douglass and JC’s illustration by clicking here.

Throughout the month, we've been overwhelmed by the outpouring of creativity and participation in our coloring contest, as entries have flooded our inbox.

Now, the moment has arrived to select the top contenders. Our team here at The Kokomo Post had the hard task of picking what we believe to be the top 10 submissions. And now, the power is now in your hands!

From now until Feb. 29, you have the opportunity to cast your vote for your favorite masterpiece. Simply comment below this article in the comment section with the letter corresponding to your preferred coloring page. Remember, only one vote per person will be counted, so be sure to rally your family and friends!

But wait, there’s more! Here’s what winners will receive:

  • First-place winner: A $75 gift card to Yolonda’s Place, where you can indulge in delicious cuisine and warm hospitality.

  • Second-place winner: A $50 Visa gift card graciously provided by realtor Angelina Sims with About Your Home Realty, helping you on your journey to finding the perfect home.

  • Third-place winner: A $25 gift card from HomeTeam Ice Cream, where you can treat yourself to a delightful array of frozen delights.
