7 Positive Highlights From Today’s Press Conference
Hey Kokomo! Howard County, Indiana Government, went live on Facebook this morning with County and City leaders sharing COVID-19 updates and announcing a new ordinance through December 30th, 2020. You can watch the whole video here. Here are the positive highlights you may have missed:
A large portion of the spike in recent COVID-19 cases in Howard County were from a the Howard County Jail. The facility experienced a recent rapid spread of COVID-19 with inmates. The good news is, no inmates have been hospitalized.
There are heroes all around us. Healthcare workers are fantastic. If you know someone who works in health care, thank them! They are doing incredible work.
Our leaders added a new perspective about mask wearing. Dr. Emily Backer used this analogy: “I think of my mask now they same way I think about my seatbelt - I may not need my seatbelt every day to save my life, but it is worth putting on everyday just in case that’s the day I really need it. So please, wear your mask.”
Our community is equipped! In regards to PPE and preparedness, we are in much better shape compared to the spring. Kokomo hospitals are prepared to manage and lead through this pandemic. They have the supplies and they have the rooms.
There is hope around the corner. Local healthcare professionals are hopeful for an approved vaccine in Howard County for distribution in early spring or summer 2021. After it’s been administered to high-risk individuals and healthcare workers, there are distribution plans in place to administer to everyone who wants to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
Howard County schools have done a great job! Teachers and school administrators are rockstars. Our leaders recognized the outstanding job our county schools have done in keeping our children healthy and safe. According to Commissioner Paul Wyman, “schools are the safest place for our children to be.”
Mayor Tyler Moore showed up with a beard. Maybe he’s been growing it under a mask for a while, or taking part in No-Shave November. Either way, we’re here for it. Looking good MTM!
There you have it, Kokomo. Commissioner Wyman said, “It’s a tricky moment, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.” Let’s do our part as individuals to keep our community #Kokomostrong! As Wyman said, “Let’s do what we can so that when we look back, we’ll be proud of how we handled it.”
