Press Release From Paul Wyman:

The Haynes Apperson Festival Board announces that the festival for this year will be canceled however, will return in full force the weekend of July 1,2 and 3rd in 2021.

“This was an incredibly difficult decision for us since the Haynes Apperson Festival has such a rich tradition in our community dating back to July 1976.  Our board worked hard to find a way to have the festival, while at the same time adhering to the Back on Track Indiana Plan, as well as, looking out for the safety of our volunteers and guests.” said Board Chairman Paul Wyman.  “We are disappointed, but we know that it is the right decision for our community at this time.  We are already making plans for next year and I know our volunteers will be ready to host an even bigger and better festival.” he added.

“We did look at the potential to move to another date however, there are many components to the Festival.  We plan and work on the festival year round and trying to coordinate the availability of rides, vendors, bands, car shows, sound techs, parades, sports events, fireworks and volunteers for another date is tough to pull off.” said Wyman.

“Making sure we could host a safe event was paramount to our decision.  As you know, we see over 15,000 people at our festival each year and trying to maintain social distancing would have been a challenge.  We take safety and security seriously and felt it was better to error on the side of not putting festival attendees or our volunteers in a potentially difficult position. “ he added.

Wyman is thankful for all those who make the festival happen year in and year out.  "I want to thank our Board of Directors, volunteers, sports directors, sponsors and partners for all the time and resources you put into this great festival.  Your efforts are a great example of how much you love our community. We could not do it without you!"
